It’s amazing that after so many years of scientific study… So many expert investigations…. government funded enquiries… debates, papers and exposes… People are still confused about WHY we are getting so fat.

First it was because of eating too much protein… then it was because of fatty food… then it was because of high carbohydrate food…. Then the attention switched from the food itself – and suddenly it was the human body itself under the spotlight.

Were some people pre-destined to be fat? Was it there a ‘fat gene’? Was it a ‘disease’ that couldn’t be helped and must be controlled medically? Was it to do with different rates of metabolism in different people? Did thin people burn more energy, more quickly than fat people? But today I want to reveal the findings of David A Kessler, author of ‘The End of Overeating‘. He explodes some of the fat myths and offers a solution.

Whether you’re overweight, underweight or PERFECTLY IN BALANCE (Lucky you!) this is interesting. Because Kessler believes that the food manufacturing industry is deliberately turning us into a bunch of food addicts.

I’ll explain…

Three Fat Myths Exposed

1. It’s all about metabolism

Not according to Kessler. Most studies reveal that obese people burn more energy than their thin counterparts.

2. Some unlucky people don’t have to eat much to get fat.

This myth comes from the many studies where people write diaries to record their food intake. Almost always, people underestimate the food they put in their mouths each day. Kessler explains that “So much of our eating takes place outside our awareness that it’s easy to underestimate how much food we actually put into our bodies.”

3. It’s all genetic.

Kessler quotes a study which studied a group of children for several years. The weight of their parents was less important than how much they ate. His conclusion? “People get fat because they eat more than people who are lean”. It’s hardly groundbreaking, and hardly likely to shift a million fad diet books, but perhaps this is the common sense wake-up call society needs.

And here’s the most shocking thing….

The obvious solution is that everybody should eat less, right? All diet books should say is “Halve your portion” and be done with it, yes? A great big education programme will soon show society how to end the obesity problem almost immediately, wouldn’t it?

Well, it’s a big fat “no” to all three.

Because Kessler the problem DOES lie in the food we eat. But it’s not to do with one particular type of food – natural protein, natural carbs or natural fats – being better or worse than the other. It’s not about eating less ham, more carrots, more salad, less cereal, more eggs, fewer steaks….

It’s all about processed fat, sugar and salt.

According to Kessler – and I agree with him totally from my own investigations and experiences into weight loss – “Sugar, fat and salt make us eat more sugar fat and salt.” What has happened in the last 50 years is that collectively, we’ve entered a cycle of addiction.

Why Some Food Makes us Crave More Food

The ability of modern foods to hit our pleasure ‘hot buttons’ has created the problem. And quite clearly this is a deliberate act on the part of the food industry to sell more food. What industry in the modern capitalist age WOULDN’T try to increase its market demand and its profits? Processed foods contain well-programmed combinations of sugar, fat and salt. We live in a world of super-addictive food: the manufactured cakes, burgers, fries, milkshakes, curries, pasta meals, cereals and sandwiches offer people a shot of pleasure that leaves them wanting MORE.

It’s all about the sensations in the mouth, the signals shooting to the brain, the aroma that fills your nose. When we eat sugary, fatty, salty food, we experience a sensory ‘high’. This would be fine in moderation – a little bit of what you fancy does you good. I’m no saint when it comes to food, and I don’t believe you should torture yourself about having the occasional indulgence. It’s fun, it’s pleasurable, and life needs a bit of short-term happiness.

But the big problem for our society is the availability of this addictive food. Fast food joints, home delivery services and supermarkets are everywhere, selling all the stuff we crave, almost 24 hours a day. It’s very hard to avoid.

A second problem is the accessible price. While many food costs are rising – namely fruit and vegetables, meats, and juices – the prices of the most manufactured, artificial and mass-market foods are still very low. Because of this wide availability,, the act of eating addictive food has easily and quickly become a habit. And if you’ve ever struggled to change a habit in your life, you’ll know how difficult this is to reverse.

Drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, food… they’re all very similar in the way they work on the human brain. And in Kessler’s view, the solution is to treat them the same.

Kessler’s 5 Step Rehab

In the final part of The End of Overeating, he suggests that a form of Food Rehab is the answer. We need to understand WHY we overeat and then tackle the problem at the source. Here’s how he believes you can create your own rehab in 5 steps:

Planned eating – have set times and menus for what you eat every day. By determining what and when you eat, you block out the opportunities for unthinking, absent-minded snacking and bingeing. It’s what I call ‘zombie’ eating, when you find yourself reaching into the fridge for a slab of cheese.

Just right eating – this is something I’ve touched on before when discussing food habits in old Japanese cultures, where it’s impolite to eat until you’re full. The idea is that you put a small portion on a plate and tell yourself “that’s enough food” and when you’re finished, that’s that. Even if you still feel hungry, you have to get into the habit of thinking “I’m full.”

Choosing satisfying foods – Kessler means foods that make your feel fuller, longer. These are diets based on lean protein, whole grains and beans, fruits and non starchy vegetables. Pretty much the low G.I, controlled carbs diet.

Eat foods you enjoy – it you try a strict diet of foods you don’t like, you will quickly fail. Food MUST still be pleasurable.

Mental rehearsal – Kessler suggests that before you go to a big meal, or before you’re likely to enter a scenario where temptation is likely, you rehearse what your behaviour will be. You imagine not reaching for a second round of garlic bread, you picture yourself eating just the right amount and refusing the after dinner chocolates. It’s how athletes ready themselves for an event – they reinforce their future behaviour by going through it in their heads first. It’s fascinating stuff and if you’re interested I recommend you take a look at the book. The End of Overeating by David A. Kessler is published by Penguin and is available in books shops or on Amazon.

One of the major advantages of using nutritional supplements in the process of losing weight, is that they improve your body’s metabolic rate. The other thing you should consider is a powerful anti-oxidant, since some of the reason why our bodies store fat is, that it’s the safest place to keep toxins – the fat becomes a form of insulation. This is one of the reasons why we lose weight when we exercise – because perspiration helps to cleanse the body of toxins.

Nutritional Myths Regarding Rapid Weight Loss

#1 Myth: Eat a lot of protein to increase muscle mass.

This is simply untrue. There is no scientific study that has shown any kind of relationship between additional protein intake and muscle increase. In actual fact, official nourishment programs for athletes prohibit a protein intake of 2 to 2.5 times higher than the recommended daily allowance. Excess protein intake can cause dehydration, kidney and liver troubles, because protein requires more fluids to eliminate waste products.

#2 Myth: When an athlete is thirsty, that’s when he needs to drink.

You should not rely on thirst as your indicator that you need fluids. Your thirst mechanism is telling you that you have gone beyond thirst, to dehydration. You need to consume a regular quantity of water to keep the body hydrated and flushed of toxins and cleansed.

#3 Myth: Sugar should not be part of a good diet for athletes before a competition.

Sugar, which is a form of simple carbohydrate, can actually fuel an athlete’s get-up-and-go, consequently improving his performance. Eliminating sugar from an athletes diet may prevent them from performing at their best. Too much sugar when living a more sedentary lifestyle is the problem, not sugar intake alone.

#4 Myth: Only athletes who work out for more than an hour need sports drinks.

Absolutely not true. Dehydration can easily be prevented with sports drinks.

#5 Myth: The best way to lose weight is with exercise.

It is possible that a portion of your weight loss will just be excess bodily fluids. But water eliminated during work outs and other physical exercise must be replaced. Losing fluids however, is definitely not the same as losing fat. Athletes and individuals who desire to lose weight should seek the advice of professionals and not simply accept widely held beliefs.

Finally, your focus should be on a whole body fitness and nutritional plan if you want to lose the fat and stay trim permanently.

ired of “going it alone”?

Not surprising. Diet and exercise can be lonely, very, very, lonely tasks.

Self-discipline sounds and feels more like some medieval torture.

My suggestion: “Stop “going it alone”. Find a buddy—better yet a number of buddies.

Sixty per cent of the world’s population are faced with the same, at least very similar, challenges as you.

That means that AT LEAST 6 of every 10 people in your immediate circle would almost certainly welcome a boost (translates loosely to a “kick in the pants”) to help them achieve their own goals.

Recent New Year’s resolutions are still fresh enough in people’s minds to stir up some reactions….(guilt alone can be a great motivator). Ask me how I know.

Tell everyone you know about your determination to, this time, really live up to your own resolutions. The “hows and whys” can come later in the dialogue.

Share with these potential “health buddies” the fact that you are concerned, because you are starting to find it easier and easier to “skip a day”.

The “hectic schedule” excuses, coupled with the fact that there are just so many daily “calorie temptations”, have you a bit worried. And no matter how true you are being to your diet and exercise routine, at this point it’s really important to truly look and sound as worried as you can.

Most people will welcome the opportunity to “help”; especially the people who truly care about you. (One unexpected benefit of using this method is that you will find out in a hurry who your true friends are.) Forget the “nay-sayers” and move along.

Don’t be surprised if and when a number of your friends offer to help you by joining you at the table and at the gym, or the walk around the block or the aerobics in front of the TV…..whatever path you choose to follow.

Talk about a win-win situation. You started out by asking for help; and may well end up being “just what the doctor ordered” for an entire group of soon-to-be healthy friends and family.

As much as I would like to take all the credit, I do have to admit that the true inspiration for our own commitment, as well as for the team building concept came from none other than the best selling author, Tom Venuto. His newest book, THE BODY FAT SOLUTION, just hit the shelves. It’s the icing on the cake for his online program, BURN THE FAT….FEED THE MUSCLE.

Let’s begin by considering what has been the weight control mantra for decades: EAT LESS….EXERCISE MORE.

It’s clean, compact, easy to say, easy to remember, and easy to commit to first thing every morning. As long as you remain in bed, everything is fine. As soon as your feet hit the floor, and your day begins for real, the struggle begins.

You find yourself already behind schedule; or you’re just too lazy to prepare a proper breakfast, even though you KNOW it is the most important meal of the day. Good thing there are a few pastries in the cupboard, huh?

You delude yourself into thinking that since the pastry was rather small, you’ve just had a “light” breakfast. (So far you are “EATING LESS”; and you promise yourself that you’ll get to the gym later in the day and really “EXERCISE MORE”.

The caffeine and sugar combine to give you a sufficient “buzz” to get you started…either off to work, or as far as finding the remote and settling down on the couch with only minutes to spare. (Before Jeopardy comes on)

You’re not crazy about your job, and today is more stressful that usual; or, JEOPARDY turns out to be one that you’ve already seen seven times. By now, your “pseudo-breakfast buzz” is wearing off, and now you are really, really hungry; but it’s still an hour and a half till lunch. So maybe just a “light snack” to carry you through.

Four or five hundred empty calories later, you’re feeling a bit better; and yes, you are still “EATING LESS”. And you promise to “EXERCISE MORE” by expanding this afternoon’s workout to include an extra fifteen minutes on the treadmill.

Can you see where this is going?

Although it may remain true, on the surface, that you are “eating less”, the reality is that you are actually eating more, lots more…empty calories from nutritionaly empty semi-food junk.

Couple this with the reality of most non-exercise days. How many times out of 10 does something come up which prevents you from getting anywhere close to the exercise you promised upon awakening?

Before you know it, it’s bedtime; and since your evening meal probably consisted of some totally unsatisfying, pre-packaged nightmare, you are starving for the traditional bed-time snack. (But just a “little” one. RIGHT!?)

End Result: If you’re not obese…you are probably still in your teens.

You may fool yourself into thinking that you are “Eating Less” when you are actually consuming MORE. Way more calories than your non-exercised body can possibly burn. And we all know where that leads. At least I do.

To lose weight effectively, you need a mentor, a system, a program. Tom Venuto’s program BURN THE FAT…FEED THE MUSCLE is one of the more popular and successful fat loss systems. Sensible eating, five times a day; coupled with an understanding of the mental processes involved in weight control and management. The results, notwithstanding a total breakdown during the holidays (some habits need more work), have been outstanding. We are physically and mentally in the best shape that we have been in for years; and instead of becoming more difficult (or even worse…painfully boring), the process continues making more sense with each passing pound.

We can’t recommend this one highly enough. See for yourself at: BURN THE FAT…FEED THE MUSCLE. We’ve also followed some of Tom’s additional recommendations and are now following an exercise routine that provides a total body workout while requiring only minutes a day.

It’s pretty easy to focus on the foods that we like rather than the ones that our body needs. If it’s not a daily habit that you’re constantly indulging in, this isn’t really too much of a problem. It is quite alright to snack on those delicious desserts at the holiday table, considering that it is highly unlikely that those treats will cause you health issues unless you eat many sweets on a regular basis. Unfortunately, for many people, they do. To find ways to break all the bad habits that have been established over a lifetime is one of the first steps in improving your overall health.

In order to break bad nutritional habits, one of the first things that must be done is to educate yourself to be able to recognize what foods make up a healthy and nutritious diet. You have to know what type of foods that your body requires, and the portion size, before you can pinpoint the habits that are ruining your health. At its most fundamental level, a healthy diet is comprised of a daily intake of assorted fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy products, and proteins that are low in fat. If your diet lacks in any of these areas, you aren’t getting all the nutrition your body requires. The majority of people lack an adequate amount of fresh fruits and vegetables in their diets.

When you learn that your diet is missing important nutrients that your body requires each day, you will begin to choose wiser and select the more nourishing foods. If you’re into eating snacks, you should get rid of the junk and start using vegetables and fruit chopped up. You’ll find that you are actually more satisfied. You might even begin to realize that you like them better. The harmful bad habits will finally be broken, the healthful new practice taking its place.

Every piece of food that you ingest as part of your daily diet is a choice you make. These choices have become second nature, and are usually made unconsciously without us even noticing! To successfully alter bad habits, you’ll have to begin being consciously aware of the decisions you’re making. They will be become automatic eventually. You should find that you feel better and more energetic, which can reinforce your new choices. To stay disease free healthy nutrition is a good foundation.

_____________________________________________________________

Today there are many diets out there to choose from, and if you want to lose weight, it can be a bit difficult to figure out which diet is for you. However, one of the top diet choices out there today is the Atkins Diet. Of course before you start any diet you probably want to know a bit more about it and how it works. So, let’s take a look at how the Atkins Diet got started, how it works, who it works best for, and more so you can make the right choice.

Overview of the Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a popular diet that was developed by Dr. Atkins. The entire diet is based on the theory of this doctor is that the main problem for people who are overweight is that they eat too many carbohydrates and their body is extra sensitive to them. His idea is that the body and how it processes the carbs you take in each day is what makes you gain more weight. Basically Dr. Atkins feels that many people eat too many carbohydrates, which leads to insulin resistance. In order to remedy this problem, the diet is one that restricts the intake of carbs and focuses on eating a diet that is high in protein. You end up reducing the amount of carbs that you eat each day to make your body start burning off the fat on the body as its fuel.

People the Diet Works Best For

While this diet has been shown to be effective for many people, it seems to work the best for people who really do have an insulin resistance build up in their body. Also, people who are hypoglycemic can really benefit from this diet as well if they are trying to lose weight.

Pros and Cons

You will find that just like any other diet, there are definitely both pros and cons. Let’s take a look at a few of the pros and cons you’ll find if you try this diet.

- Pro #1 – It’s a Simple Diet – One of the main pros that so many people love is that it is a very simple diet to follow. Once you learn what foods you are supposed to be eating, those you should avoid, and learn to count carbs, it really is a diet that is easy to follow.

- Pro #2 – Finding Your Own Level of Carbs – Another great pro is that the diet does focus on finding the level of carbs that works best for you. Some people may be able to eat a bit more than others, but the focus is to figure out what works for you.

- Pro #3 – A Popular Diet – The Atkins Diet is a popular diet as well. This is a pro because it means that you can easily find information on the diet and support as you are trying to follow it as well.
- Con #1 – You Miss Out on Cancer Fighting Fruits and Vegetables – One of the main cons of this diet is that because of the big restriction on carbs, you actually miss out on some of the most important cancer fighting fruits and vegetables that you need. Add to this that you’re eating more red meat, which too much of can cause cancer, and you may create a dangerous situation.

- Con #2 – You Always Have to Count Carbs – Many people don’t like the fact that they are always having to keep track of the carbs they eat. This means that every single thing that goes in their mouth must be counted, which can get old after awhile.

- Con #3 – Miss Out on Necessary Nutrients – Probably one of big cons to this diet is the fact that you miss out on many necessary nutrients that your body needs, since you cannot eat many foods. While some minerals and vitamins can be taken in a supplement, some of the important phytonutrients that you need cannot be replaced by taking a supplement.

Foods You Can and Can’t Eat

There are several different phases of the Atkins diet and each phase affects the food that you can and cannot eat as well. When you are going through the first two weeks of the Atkins plan, you are only allowed to have 20 grams of carbs each day, and the carbs that you can eat include vegetables that are low in carbohydrates, such as tomatoes, lettuce, and broccoli. During this time you can’t even eat fruits, potatoes, breads, or yogurt, since they have too many carbs. You can’t take in caffeine or alcohol during this time either.

As you go into the second stage of this diet you are allowed to go up to 25 grams of carbs each day. After you get to the weight you want to be, then you can slowly introduce some good carbs into your diet once again, but you have to make sure that you don’t gain back the weight that you have lost. Some of the things that you can add to your diet include plenty of proteins, such as various meats, like red meat, bacon, and you can even add eggs.

The Opinion of the Medical Community

So, you may be wondering what the opinion of the medical community happens to be. Well, the medical community often criticizes the Atkins Diet Plan, feeling that there are many dangers to going on a diet that is so low on carbs and so high on protein. Since you cannot eat many fruits and vegetables, doctors fear that people don’t get the nutrients that their body really needs to be healthy. Also, all the fat that is taken in on this diet can be very dangerous. The American Heart Association definitely is concerned with the diet because of the high fat, and the American Dietetic Association is also concerned about it because of the lack of nutrition the diet offers.

You might be reading a title like this and thinking to yourself: “Yeah right! Slim while you sleep? You can’t be SERIOUS?”

I completely understand.

The idea of losing weight while you sleep is like something out of a science fiction film. But this isn’t to do with a futuristic wonder pill… or starving yourself…. or drugging yourself… or trying yourself to your bed so you can’t get to the fridge.

It’s a really easy way to change your eating habits, put an end to cravings, and break the cycle of the “fat trap”. No slimming pills. No depriving yourself of good food. No self-torture. And no ‘yo-yo’ dieting.

Yet there’s modern, cutting edge science behind this.

So if you’ve ever struggled to follow a diet before, I urge you to take a look at this: Slim While You Sleep

Why you need to read this report

Obesity is rising. According to government reports, 60% of men, 50% of women could be clinically obese by 2050. Reasons include poverty, modern food production, the rise of supermarkets and cheap food, popular culture, advertising, and education.

Whatever the reason for the state of things, most of us want – or NEED – to lose some weight.

More importantly, we need to keep that weight off for the rest of our lives. Because yo-yo dieting is as unhealthy as being overweight. And there’s nothing more damaging to your self-worth than another failed diet. In the past, diet fads have been the all-mighty answer, pushed by scientists, western governments, and the food industry.

Alas, it’s a WRONG answer.

For example, low-fat diets have been the norm since the 70s. They typically cut out red and fatty meats, replacing them with lots of chicken, fish, carbohydrates and vegetables. Countless millions of people have been on these diets for decades.

And yet we’re getting fatter.

Why fad diets don’t work

The problem is, if you simply cut out certain food groups, starve and deprive yourself… you will never lose weight. You may shift some pounds in the short term, but you will always put them back on.

Why?

Because you have only tackled the symptoms, not the causes, of why you overeat. Yes, you can apply a load of rules to your eating habits and see some short term affect on your weight. But your ability to keep these rules up over a lifetime depends on whether your food mentality has changed.

And most of the time, diets never tackle how you think. They never tackle the root cause of the problem – which isn’t just your body, but your mind too. Many people don’t realise the close relationship between body and mind… that you can’t change one without changing the other. Thousands of complex processes go on ‘behind the scenes’ that you don’t realise are happening.

For instance, when you crave that pizza or bag of crisps, it’s often because your blood sugar levels influence your brain to “decide” that this is what you MUST HAVE IMEMDIATELY. This is a case of your BODY influencing your MIND subconsciously.

And when you eat out of boredom, unhappiness, or insecurity, it’s not an ‘evil’ foodstuff or ingredient that’s making you do it… It’s your own MIND influencing your BODY subconsciously. Without fixing the mental tr

iggers, you can’t lose weight and keep it off. And without recognising the way your body influences your needs and cravings, you still can’t lose weight and keep it off.
.
So imagine if you could get your mind and body working together harmoniously. If you could ‘re-wire’ yourself to start eating properly, in the right amounts, and only when you are hungry. Sounds like a tall order, right?

Not if you try the simple steps laid out in this:

Slim While You Sleep

Could you really ‘slim while you sleep’?

Get Slim While You Sleep is based on ‘Neuropsychology’. This where you can use simple techniques to re-programme your mind and body to lose weight.

How?

By tackling the root causes of why we overeat. By re-wiring the mental ‘circuits’ that send us automatically grabbing for least healthy food in the cupboard. By stopping the urges for high-carb, high sugar ‘quick fixes’ before they happen.

Ruth claims that she can help you reduce food cravings and food addictions… avoid the physiological triggers for overeating… and overcome the mental barriers that stop you losing weight.

Sounds complicated?

Well, the science behind it is, but you don’t need to know any of that. The author has created a simple, easy to follow system that requires… following basic instructions and doing something rather strange before you go to bed.

Even while you sleep, your brain could create new neural pathways to change your eating habits.

The Get Slim While You Sleep programme is available for a 56-day home trial, so it’s well worth checking out. If you do not see massive results within 30 days, you can also keep the full audio course for life and have a refund . You also have the option of a free mini-course.

Really, this is like nothing you’ve seen before. I’ve read this and re-read it again… and think it’s really exciting. But you decide for yourself.
